We follow a named Brune, to whom grief seems incessant, and doom certain.
Battling the loss of his wife - Evelyn - the widower succumbs to alcoholism, as a result of constant privation. He seldom goes outside, and instead, wallows in his own filth-ridden pyre.
Bedraggled and defeated, we presume a banishment by other Bereavians has occurred, for any whom he encounters, scold him with reprimand. Brune, however, upholds a specific credence unlike his fellow Bereavians; this
polarity meets no safe haven, since the populace mock his beliefs. In addition to being lonesome and bereft of his wife, he must now reckon with isolation and alienation also.
Time drifts by, when, being deprived of the sole residue, to which harks him back to his wife, an enlightenment, referred to as "a moment of clarity", commences this inquest into what dark, malevolent truth thieved him of his beloved.
He supposes, that something inhuman lurks within Bereave's strange labyrinth.
Could he be sane after all?
